writing in a pandemic
April 3, 2021 I just called to say *I love you* / Writing about writing

daffodil is just a word

I’ve been think a lot recently about the idea of safety. Specifically how powerful it is to turn to someone and say, “You make me feel safe.” To trust them fully. And at the same time how important it is to learn to how to make my own kind of safety. A deep breath. A lit candle. A good meal.

the pedestrians by rachel zucker

“no word in her language”

toxic positivity
February 20, 2021 I was just thinking

where the sun don’t shine

RANDOM THOUGHTS FOR JANUARY 2021 (a pandemic diary entry for Month 11 of The Social Distancing)

pandemic diary

asked about forever, he does not say no

They say now bandanas and neck gaiters are not good enough. And an infectious disease expert tells CNN we may be wearing masks for a few more years. Asked about forever, he does not say no.

stages of coronavirus grief
August 2, 2020 I was just thinking / Writing about writing

on “groping for meaning” with natalie goldberg during a global pandemic

For a poet, I think I’m late to the nesting and writing stages of coronavirus grief. But thanks to a cat, perimenopause and Natalie Goldberg, I’m here now.

normal after the pandemic
May 3, 2020 I was just thinking

“ocean’s stomach of inevitability”

Will things be normal after the pandemic? This poet hopes not and contemplates the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for change that’s before us for now.
