Carolee is a painter, mixed media artist and poet living in Upstate New York. She has roots in northern Maine, where she was born and raised in a paper mill town along the Penobscot; in West Virginia, the college “home among the hills” where she received an undergraduate degree in journalism; and Portland, Oregon, where she started craving a stronger sense of herself.
Her poetry is published locally and nationally and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She reads and features at open mics throughout Upstate NY and earned an MFA in creative writing (poetry) from Ashland University (a low-residency program based in Ohio). In 2010, she was the “almost” poet laureate of Smitty’s Tavern in Voorheesville, New York, placing as first runner-up in the inaugural contest. Currently, she’s the Twitter boss (@TupeloPress3030) for the Tupelo Press 30/30 Project and a member of The American Poetry Journal book review team.
Carolee is the moody single mother of three very tall boys. She works full-time as a writer in social media marketing.
