we all know what happened at the boston marathon today. as a runner, i am particularly saddened by the choice of this setting for any kind of violence. as a resident of albany, ny, i wonder how much longer we can be safe (incidents in manhattan just to our south, boston a similar distance to our west). as a poet, i only wish words could be larger…
twin explosions: the only thing i can offer by way of comfort
for boston, april 15, 2013
i cried, took my dog for a long walk,
watched ducks, runners and blue delivery trucks
circle the lake in the albany park where leaves
try their best to emerge. as darkness encroached,
i watched the crescent moon rise with jupiter
nearby in the evening sky, opened
a bottle of red wine and thought about the love
in my life.
